I'm going to mess with the recipe a little because I don't tolerate potatoes all that well (all the nightshades, actually) -- I'm guessing that substituting sweet potatoes will change the flavor profile a lot but still be good. I'll let you know.

This will be a good potluck dish, especially since it's vegan and gluten-free. Hopefully we won't bring it to the same potluck. Like her advice to pay for your daily coffee at local coffee shops, rather than making it yourself at home, because you might score "a muffin sample or brownie bite." (Is that one bite of brownie really worth more than the $4 or more you'll pay for the coffee?) Or her boast that she's still eating off plates she literally stole from the restaurant where she worked 35 years ago. They can directly transmit hantavirus, leptospirosis, salmonellosis, and monkeypox, among others, and they don't have to bite you to do it; they spread germs through their droppings, which they leave everywhere. They can also be hosts for fleas that carry babesiosis, typhus, Lyme disease and, as you say, plague. And, on top of that, a rat in your house can do a lot of damage to walls, wiring, and even plumbing. So you really don't want one in your home. If we could have been sure the rat would stay outside, we wouldn't have worried too much about it, but as you note, they're intelligent critters and can also squeeze into pretty small spaces. The groundhogs, which are much bigger rodents, didn't concern us as much because they were unlikely to invade the house.
https://www.cdc.gov/healthypets/pets/wildlife/rodent-control.htmlAmy Livingstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16362533758291353748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6276531209730408101.post-66775189154667017442023-08-17T22:13:01.606-04:002023-08-17T22:13:01.606-04:00Rats do not carry diseases and they are not danger...Rats do not carry diseases and they are not dangerous or aggressive if you don't actively try to pick them up or corner them. The plague was caused by fleas on the rats. Dangerous fleas can live on cats and dogs and we don't live in fear of their presence. Rats are as emotionally complex as human children and generally have an IQ around 100. They will sacrifice themselves for their friends and even use complex language and grammer/ syntax. We can't hear most of their sounds due to the high pitch being above detectable levels for humans. You obviously have compassion for animals with the way you talk about your groundhog friend which is wonderful. I used to be scared of rats and thought they were disgusting but they are actually just misunderstood. I'm sure this particular rat is long gone by now with its short life span but I hope your love for animals in general will expand with this knowledge. BTW groundhogs are just big rodents, similar to rats and squirrels. Have a wonderful day:)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6276531209730408101.post-90994351692198876172023-05-29T14:09:10.490-04:002023-05-29T14:09:10.490-04:00I think the solution to that is to spread the word...I think the solution to that is to spread the word as much as possible. I was expecting that the ecosystem could handle it and the biologicals would take care of it rather than flushing it down a toilet contaminating the water stream in a system that cannot remove these. Prescription medicines I was trying to degrade rather than turn them into a drop off system. This has been proven. Kind-a-like a Mason jar full-o-water in the fridge - it just doesn't seem to go bad. I've never tried this after releasing all the pressure, emptying a can of its nitrous oxide propellant. Not sure why, but the little containers of half-n-half that you buy seem to last a long time at room temperature. So I'm thinking that pasteurized heavy cream in a sterilized oxygen-free steel can with sugar and vanilla flavoring in a pure nitrous oxide environment is well preserved and incredibly resistant to spoilage. Quite handy for people who only eat whipped cream occasionally. If you grab a can from the fridge and discover there's no pressure inside, don't fret. You can always repressurize the can with nitrous and keep enjoying it 'til its all gone.MikeSpikerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13517461484842194026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6276531209730408101.post-12749526669745681272022-10-12T07:46:38.548-04:002022-10-12T07:46:38.548-04:00I think it's less work to tuck in a flat sheet...I think it's less work to tuck in a flat sheet on the bottom than it is to spend hours hunting for fitted sheets exactly the right depth for your mattress.
